In 1979 a New York band made their debut with their smash hit ÔMy SharonaÕ, written by lead singer Doug Fieger and guitarist Berton Averre. It was released June 18, 1979, went gold in eight weeks and on August 25 reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It remains one of the most well known and pop songs of the late 70Õs early 80Õs.
